1. to salt (to conserve food by sprinkling it with salt or by placing it into a saline solution)

   sālīta zivs‎ ― salted fish

   sālīti sēnes, produkti‎ ― salted mushrooms, groceries

   medījumu gaļas sālīšana nodrošina tās ilgu saglabāšanos‎ ― the salting of game meat ensures its conservation

   vīķes sālīt prata mūsu tālie senči jau tajos laikos, kad tikai iemācījās makšķerēt un uzzināja, kas ir sāls‎ ― our distant ancestors knew how to salt bleaks already in the old times, when they had just learned to fish and found out what salt was

2. to salt (to add common salt to something, in order to change its taste, its chemical properties, etc.)
