Usage notes

This is one of only three everyday kanji with a 5 morae reading, and one of only two nouns, namely (みことのり, mikotonori). The only other kanji with a 5 morae reading are , in the verb 承る ((うけたまわ)る, uketamawa-ru), and (こころざし, kokorozashi), and no everyday kanji have a 6 or more morae reading.

The unusually long reading is due to it representing a triple compound word, analyzed as 御言宣 mi-koto-nori, yielding 1+2+2=5.
