1. (usually in the plural) debt

   պարտոյ տէր‎ ― partoy tēr ― creditor

   բազում պարտս ունել‎ ― bazum parts unel ― to be over head and ears in debt

   հատուցանել զպարտս իւր‎ ― hatucʿanel zparts iwr ― to discharge or pay a debt

2. (usually in the plural) duty, obligation, engagement, due

   պարտք անձին համարել‎ ― partkʿ anjin hamarel ― to assume the obligation

   հատուցանել զպարտս երախտագիտութեան‎ ― hatucʿanel zparts eraxtagitutʿean ― to discharge a debt of gratitude

   հատուցանել զպարտս իւր առ հայրենիս‎ ― hatucʿanel zparts iwr aṙ hayrenis ― to pay one's debt to one's country

3. (usually in the plural) tribute, tax, impost
4. (usually in the plural) lent money

   պարտ է, էր‎ ― part ē, ēr ― (impersonal verb) there must, there ought; it is right, it is necessary

   պարտ եւ արժան էր‎ ― part ew aržan ēr ― it was necessary

   չէ պարտ, ոչ է պարտ, ոչ է եւ պատշաճ‎ ― čʿē part, očʿ ē part, očʿ ē ew patšač ― it must not be, it is not right, just or lawful

   չէ պարտ կենաց‎ ― čʿē part kenacʿ ― he is unworthy of life

   պարտ վարկանել‎ ― part varkanel ― to think proper, to deem expedient
