  1. Used other than as an idiom: see brush, down. To remove something with a brush, or ones hands using a downward brushing motion.
  2. (idiomatic) To straighten up one's clothes and to tidy up one's appearance.
    After tripping over, he picked himself up, brushed himself down, and carried on walking.

  • In all senses the object (if mentioned) may appear before or after the particle. If the object is a pronoun, then it must be before the particle.
