akcents m (1st declension)

1. (linguistics, usually singular) accent, stress (pronunciation emphasis on a specific syllable)

   galvenais akcents un palīgakcents‎ ― main stress and secondary (lit. auxiliary) stress

   latviešu valodā vispārināts pirmās zilbes akcents‎ ― in the Latvian language, initial syllable stress has been generalized

2. (music, usually singular) accent, stress (emphasis on parts of a melody)

3. stress, emphasis, overtone (a strengthened element in a composition, article, speech, etc.)

4. accent (specifities in the pronunciation of an individual)

   runāt ar latvsiku akcentu‎ ― to speak with a Latvian accent

   runāt kādā valodā bez akcenta‎ ― to speak a certain language without accent

   viņa runā varēja sadzirdēt akcentu‎ ― his accent could be heard in his speech

   “uz kurieni ved šis ceļš?” svešais jautāja, izrunādams vārdus ar mazliet savādu akcentu‎ ― “where does this path lead?” the stranger asked, pronouncing the words with a bit of an unusual accent
