Cognates include Latin cluo (to clean), Welsh clir (light, bright, clear, clean, joyful), Lithuanian šlúoti (to wipe), Ancient Greek κλύζω (klúzō), Gothic 𐌷𐌻𐌿𐍄𐍂𐍃 (hlutrs, pure, clean).
