An Iranian borrowing. Compare Manichaean Parthian hyrz- (hirz, to let, leave, abandon; remit (of sins), establish, appoint), Avestan [script needed] (harəz-, to dismiss, to let go), Persian هلیدن (hilīdan, to dismiss, to abandon; to let go), هشتن (heštan, to leave, abandon), Sanskrit सृजति (sṛjati, discharge, emit). Related to ապահարզան (apaharzan).

The -զ- (-z-) in the form համարզակիմ (hamarzakim) has an etymological value.
