Etymology
A prefixed formation based on Proto-Albanian*gripa, cognate to Old High German krapfo(“hook”) and Old Norse krappr(“narrow”)[1]. Alternatively from Proto-Indo-European*grep-(“hook”), from *gremb-(“crooked, uneven”), from *ger-(“to turn, bend, twist”), same root as grep(“hook”).
