Irish

Determiner

n-a

  1. Alternative form of a (his, her, their)

Particle

n-a

  1. Alternative form of a (relative particle)

Usage notes

For both the determiner and the particle, this form is found in older texts after certain vowel-final prepositions, e.g. faoi n-a (under/about his, under/about her, under/about their, under/about which), i n-a (in his, in her, in their, in which), le n-a (with his, with her, with their, with which), ó n-a (from his, from her, from their, from which). In modern texts these forms are written as single words: faoina, ina, lena, óna.
