From këputë 'sole'[1]. Other proposals include: 1) Camarda, from Greekπαπούτσι(papoútsi). 2) Meyer, from Turkishpapuç(paputsh)pabuç(pabutsh), from Ottoman Turkishپاپوش(papush), from Persianپاپوش(papush), although these are less probable as they are reflected already in Albanian papuçë.
