Etymology

From ãn + a Proto-Slavic *vьrtěti (compare Serbo-Croatian вртети ‎(vrtjeti), Bulgarian въртя ‎(vŭrtja)), with the Aromanian suffix -escu. A relation to Latin invertere or vertere is not probable. Compare Daco-Romanian învârti, învârtesc.
