Usage notes

Unlike the construction halb zwei ‎(“half past one, one-thirty”), constructions like viertel zwei and dreiviertel zwei are restricted to the eastern parts of the German-speaking area, and may not be understood elsewhere. In the remaining parts of the German-speaking area, the usual constructions are Viertel nach eins ‎(“quarter past one”) and Viertel vor zwei ‎(“quarter to two”).
