Sino-Korean word from 土曜日, from 土 ‎(“earth”) + 曜日 ‎(“day of the week”), from Latin dies Saturni (“day of Saturn”), through Indian astrology in the fifth century as Sanskrit zanivāra (zani, “of the planet Saturn”) into Buddhist astrology in the eighth century as 土曜日 (土, “earth”, the Buddhist element associated with the planet Saturn).
