Sino-Korean word from 日曜日, from 日 ‎(“sun”) + 曜日 ‎(“day of the week”), from Latin dies solis (“sun's day”), through Indian astrology in the fifth century as Sanskrit ravidina (ravi, “sun”) into Buddhist astrology in the eighth century as 日曜日 (日, “sun”).
