Probably from Middle Chinese compound 貧弱 (bin nyak, literally poor + weak). Compare modern Mandarin 貧弱贫弱 (pínruò, “poor and weak”).

Alternatively, may have been coined in Japan of Middle Chinese-derived elements (hin, poor) + (jaku, weak).
