From Old Georgian ბადე ‎(bade). Ultimately from Proto-Kartvelian *bad- ‎(“net, cobweb”). Cognate with Svan ბა̈დ ‎(bäd), ბად ‎(bad) and Laz ბოდა ‎(boda, “net for gathering fruit”).
