1. to be, exist
   • Genesis 1:3, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:

     וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים יְהִי אוֹר וַיְהִי־אוֹר׃‎

     vayómer 'elohím y'hí 'ór vay'hí-'ór.

     And God said: 'Let there be light.' And there was light.
