Etymology

According to Martirosyan a cultural term of Mediterranean-European substrate origin, reflected also in Old Church Slavonic квасъ (kvasŭ, leaven) (Russian квас (kvas)), Latin caseus (cheese), Georgian კაწახი (ḳac̣axi, sour, unripe). -ախ (-ax) then is a suffix, probably of Urartian origin.
