Etymology

From Middle Iranian *farr +‎ -ք ‎(-kʿ). Compare Old Persian 𐎳𐎼𐎴𐎠 ‎(farnā, “glory”), Persian فر ‎(farr), Avestan [script needed] ‎(xvarənah-). See Khvarenah for more. See also թշուառ ‎(tʿšuaṙ).

The sense of “dogma, belief” is a translation of Ancient Greek δόξα ‎(dóxa, “glory; opinion, belief”). Compare how ὀρθόδοξος ‎(orthódoxos, “having the right belief”) is translated as ուղղափառ ‎(ułłapʿaṙ).
