According to Martirosyan, from յ- ‎(y-) +‎ Iranian *a-tā̆k ‎(“bottomless”), composed of the privative prefix *a- and *tā̆k ‎(“bottom”), whence տակ ‎(tak).

   առ յատակաւ կործանել, քանդել մինչեւ ցյատակ/ցյատակս‎ ― aṙ yatakaw korcanel, kʿandel minčʿew cʿyatak/cʿyataks ― to raze to the ground, to level or lay even with the ground, to demolish, to raze or pull down; to sap, to undermine

   լի լինել գետոյն յամենայն յատակս իւր‎ ― li linel getoyn yamenayn yataks iwr ― to be swelled very high, to rise, to swell beyond, to overflow
