From earlier *մանաւշակ (*manawšak), from Middle Persian *manafšak, a by-form of wnpšk' (wanafšag); see there for more. See also Middle Armenian մանիշակ (manišak) and մանօշայ (manōšay).

For the Iranian af → Old Armenian ու (u) sound change compare սուսեր (suser).
