Etymology

From հուր (hur, fire) + *դեհ (*deh, burning, combustion). The latter is of unknown origin, perhaps borrowed from some descendant of Proto-Indo-European *dʰegʷʰ- (to burn); compare especially Sanskrit दहति (dahati).
