Etymology

Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *ǵ(e)y-ǵlH-, reduplication of the root, which yielded ծաղր ‎(całr). Alternatively, an onomatopoeic word.

Usage notes

The word is not attested in classical Old Armenian, however it certainly existed back then as shown by its attested derivatives and the modern Armenian descendant.
