Old Armenian

Etymology

As correctly noted by J̌ahukyan, a borrowing from Iranian *rax. Compare Sogdian rγʾh, Yagnobi рах (rax). Compare also related dialectal ռեխ (ṙex). J̌ahukyan then asks in a footnote, whether these are related to Avestan [script needed] (sraxti, edge, corner), Persian رخ (rux, cheek) from Proto-Indo-European *srakʷ- (sharp-edged), a view taken by Bailey.

Noun

երախ (erax)

  1. mouth (of humans); muzzle (of animals)
