Etymology

From Middle Median *arasan, from Proto-Iranian *raśanā- (rope). Compare Manichaean Parthian rsn (*rasan, rope), Middle Persian lsn' (*rasan, rope), Persian رسن (rasan) and Sanskrit रशना (raśanā, rope, cord). The Parthian cognate was borrowed again as երասան (erasan). See also ապարասան (aparasan).
