от- • ‎(ot-) (ото- ‎(oto-) is used before certain consonant clusters)

1. (used with verbs) away from

   • идти́‎ ― idtí ― to go
   • отойти́ от‎ ― otojtí ot ― to go away from

Usage notes

• Only use от- when the subject moves away from the object of interest, still remaining within a sight range.

• Я отошла от неё.‎

  Ja otošla ot nejó.

  I walked away from her. (I was standing next to her, but then took a few steps away from her, still being able to see her in the same room or space.)

• Я ушла от неё.‎

  Ja ušla ot nejó.

  I walked away from her. (I was in the same room or space with her, but then left her where she was and went to a different place.)
