Etymology

From Vulgar Latin vāscella, from the neuter plural of Late Latin vāscellum, diminutive of Latin vāsculum, diminutive of vās ‎(“vessel”). Compare Occitan vaissella, French vaisselle, Spanish vajilla, Portuguese baixela.
