1. (transitive) to induce sleep in, to put to sleep

   Dvanáctý půllitr ho konečně uspal.‎ ― The twelfth pint has sent him to sleep at last.

   Je čas uspat dítě.‎ ― It's time to put the child to sleep.

   Před začátkem operace je pacient uspán.‎ ― The patient is anaesthetised before the start of the surgery.
