From Middle French tousjours, from Old French toz jorz, tuzjurz ‎(“without ceasing”, literally “all days”), equivalent to tous +‎ jours (compare Dutch altijd ‎(“always”), Danish altid ‎(“always”)). Replaced Old French sempres ‎(“always”), from Latin semper.
