Usage notes

This compound word is feminine, which is somewhat unusual as a compound word normally takes the gender of the second component word, i.e. kop ‎(“head”) which is masculine in Modern Dutch (but historically feminine).

The plural spinnekobben is also encountered, which would assume the singular spinnekob. A final -b in Dutch is voiced as a -p, rendering the pronunciation identical between spinnekop and spinnekob.
