  1. (nonstandard, Mexico) Miss/Mrs (a shortened form of treatment for women, usually being 15 or older, in some places 12 or older).
    Oiga seño, ¿dónde ponemos este sillón?.
    Hey Miss/Mrs, where can we put this armchair?.

Usage notes

  • This form extended some, because avoids conflict about the difference between "señorita" and "señora", being marital status, traditionally associated to virginity; for young single ladies being called "señora" implied have lost it (therefore offensive), and for married women of certain age, being called "señorita" implies being a spinster, not suitable for get a husband (also offensive).
  • For women younger than indicated age, usually treatment "niña" applies.
