From Vulgar Latin root *pūlicō, from Latin pūlex, pūlicem. Compare Romanian purica, puric, Logudorese puligare, Sardinian pulicare. Compare also Italian piluccare, Catalan pellucar, French éplucher, which are probably from a different source, however.
