Etymology
From Vulgar Latin *quoturnīc(u)la, diminutive of Latincōturnīx ‘quail’. The change from c to qu is the reverse process as that seen in e.g. quandō > când; the change qu to p is normal, e.g. aqua > apă. Compare Aromanian piturniclji.
