1. to help (to provide support for, to facilitate)

   līdzēt darbā‎ ― to help at work

   līdzēt piecelties‎ ― to help someone stand up

   nespēt līdzēt‎ ― to not be able to help

   talcinieki līdzēja jauno pirti uzcelt‎ ― volunteers helped build a new bath house

2. to help (to have a positive effect)

   zāles līdzēja‎ ― the medicine helped, worked

   pēršana nelīdz‎ ― beating doesn't help

   darba līdz‎ ― work helps

   ko (tas) līdz‎ ― what difference does it make? (lit. what does it help?)

   ar to nekas nebija līdzēts‎ ― nothing helped with that

   tur nelīdz ne zāles, ne plāksteris‎ ― nothing (lit. not medicine, not bandage) helps there

   metamies dārzā un sākam kliegt un plaukšķināt rokām... tas līdz: strazdi pazūd‎ ― we run to the garden and begin to shout and clap our hands... this helps: the starlings disappear
