Esperanto

Noun

kuzo (accusative singular kuzon, plural kuzoj, accusative plural kuzojn)

  1. (male) cousin
  2. (nonstandard) cousin

Usage notes

Unlike English, the Esperanto terms for "cousin" are gendered. kuzo traditionally means a male cousin, although it is losing this maleness from the influence of gender-neutral usage by English-speaking Esperantists.

To avoid misunderstandings when referring to a cousin irrespective of gender, some use the prefix ge- and say gekuzo.
