kroonprins m ‎(plural kroonprinsen, diminutive kroonprinsje n)

1. (literally) A crown prince, the prince of the blood expected to succeed to a monarch's crown
2. (figuratively) Any heir apparent, the likely successor to a commoner's position, an estate etc.

   Zoals in het Frans wordt een niet-koninklijk vermoedelijk opvolger 'dauphin' wel genoemd, naar de titel verbonden aan de promogenituur gedragen door de Franse koninklijke kroonprinsen

   As in French, a non-royal heir-apparent may be called 'dauphin' (dolphin), after the title of the primogeniture born by the French royal crown princes
