     The anemia was characterized by hypochromasia of the erythrocytes, hyperferricemia, absence of hemolysis, and hyperplastic, ineffective, sideroblastic erythropoiesis of the bone marrow.

   • 1986, Kenneth L. Garver, Genetic Counseling for Clinicians, page 130:

     Deaths from hemochromatosis plus hyperferricemia have been reported.

   • 2006, Julia A. McMillan, Oski's Pediatrics: Principles & Practice, page 2357:

     A defect in ALAS2 results in X-linked sideroblastic anemia, which is characterized by hypochromic microcytic anemia that frequently is detected in childhood, hemochromatosis that leads to death at a relatively young age, hyperferricemia, increased peripheral siderocytes after splenectomy, and reduced protoporphyrin levels in the microcytes.
