From Middle Irish fogamur ‎(“harvest”), from Old Irish fogamur, fogomur ‎(“last month of harvest”), from Proto-Celtic *wo-gamur ‎(“under winter”), from *gamur ‎(“winter”). Akin to geurey ‎(“winter”). Compare Scottish Gaelic foghar, Irish fómhar.
