1.
In chronology, a fixed point of time, from which any number of years is begun to be counted; as the Christian Era. It differs from epoch in this; era is a point of time fixed by some nation or denomination of men; epoch is a point fixed by historians and chronologists. The christian era began at the epoch of the birth of Christ.
2.
A succession of years proceeding from a fixed point, or comprehended between two fixed points. The era of the Seleucides ended with the reign of Antiochus.

  1. batch (quantity of anything produced at one operation)
  2. lot (separate portion; a number of things taken collectively)
  3. instalment; short for maksuerä (partial payment)
  4. (accounting) item, entry; short for tilierä
  5. A subdivision of many sports contests. Erä can be a time-limited part of a match between two parties or, where the number of contestants exceeds the capacity of the sports facillity, a qualifying competition between a subset of contestants. The translation into English varies by sport. Examples:
    period in icehockey
    half in soccer
    quarter or half in basketball, depending on rules applied
    round in boxing
    set in tennis, volleyball and other ballgames where the parties are separated by a net
    game in squash
    heat in athletics
    chukker in polo
  6. (rare, hunting) game, catch
