French cougar, from Brazilian Portuguese suçuarana, perhaps from Tupian (suasuarana ‎(“deerlike animal”), from suasú ‎(“deer”); compare sɨwasuarána ‎(“cervine”)) or perhaps from Guaraní (guaçuara).[1]
