abugida (plural abugidas)

  1. (linguistics) A kind of syllabary in which a symbol or glyph representing an entire syllable contains parts representing a vowel and a consonant. Symbols for different syllables are typically generated by adding, altering, or removing the vowel portion of the symbol, often in the form of diacritics applied to a stable consonant symbol.
