Schwëster f (plural Schwësteren)
From German Schwester with the vowel of native Sëschter, both from Old High German swester, from Proto-Germanic *swestēr, from Proto-Indo-European *swésōr. The older native form was based on a development -we- → -ü- as in Dutch zuster.
