Fennoscandia

1. (geography) the area comprising the Scandinavian Peninsula, the Kola Peninsula, Karelia, Finland and Denmark.
2. (geology) the Fennoscandian Shield underlying Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Northern Denmark; the exposed portion of the Baltic Shield.
3. (culture) the culture group comprising the Finnic, Sami, and Scandinavian cultures.

Usage notes

Unlike the term ‘Nordic countries’, Fennoscandia does not include Iceland, Greenland, or other geographically disconnected overseas areas.
