사이시옷 • ‎(saisiot)

1. The Hangul consonant "ㅅ" (similar to "s") that is inserted between the two agglutinating words, or more precisely, added to the end of the first word (ending with a vowel in modern Korean), for one reason or another:
   • For serving as a genitive case similar to the English 's,
     e.g., 나랏말씀 (naras-malsseum, narat-) "nation's or national language"
   • For more adaptive pronunciation of such words,
     e.g., 나뭇잎 (namus-ip, namut-nip) "tree leaf," 멧돼지 (mes-dwaeji, met-ttwaeji) wild boar, literally, "mountain boar"
