柳葉魚 (hiragana ししゃも, romaji shishamo)
From Ainu susam, presumably from susu (“willow”) + ham (“leaf”). “Willow leaf” is due to the fish’s slender shape, similar to the shape of a willow leaf. Kanji are jukujikun, literally “willow leaf fish”.
