Compound of 居 ‎(i, “being in a place, sitting in a place”, the 連用形 ‎(ren'yōkei, “continuative or stem form”) of verb 居る iru “to be (for animate subjects)”) +‎ 酒 ‎(saka, “sake, liquor, alcoholic beverage”) +‎ 屋 ‎(ya, “house, store, building”). The saka changes to zaka as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
