1. (royal) word, statement, speech, utterance, etc., especially imperative one.

Usage notes

Originally applied to words, statements, etc., of a male monarch. Later used to only refer to words, statements, etc., of a female monarch or female royal consort, as a queen, queen consort, empress, empress consort, or the like. Examples:

• พระนางเจ้าเอลิซาเบธมีพระเสาวนีย์ให้ประชุมรัฐสภาพรุ่งนี้‎

  prá-naang-jâao ee-lí-saa-bèt mii prá-sǎo-wá-nii hâi bprà-chum rát-tà-sà-paa prûng níi

  Queen Elizabeth issues a command that the parliament be in session tomorrow.
