Etymology

From Sanskrit ज्वल् ‎(jval, “to burn brightly, blaze, glow, shine”). Compare with Ancient Greek ζῆλος ‎(zêlos, “zeal, jealousy”), from which Late Latin zelosus and ultimately English zeal are derived.
