- To telephone, to phone, to call (via the phone).
- טלפנתי אליו, אבל הוא לא ענה. — tilfánti eláv, avál hu lo aná. — I called him, but he didn’t answer the phone.
Usage notes
- According to traditional grammar, the פ should have a dagesh lene, and therefore should be pronounced /p/. (Compare פִּטְפֵט (pitpét), בִּזְבֵּז (bizbéz), and so on.) Nonetheless, it is usually pronounced /f/, like in טלפון (télefon).
