Not official. Pronunciation of the written abbreviation ŝ/li. Occasionally used to avoid awkward repeated phrasing such as li aŭ ŝi "he or she".

Existing alternatives include expanding the use of the demonstrative pronoun tiu ‎(“that one”), or Zamenhof's suggestion, ĝi.
